Description
Elaiones “Stagona” is a family-run olive estate located in Statos–Agios Photios, in the Pafos district of Cyprus, one of the highest villages in the region at about 1000 m altitude. Its founder, Diogenis Demetriou, was born in the village in 1974 and has been involved with olive cultivation since childhood. In 1994 he planted his first 500 olive trees, half of them Koroneiki and half the traditional Cypriot Ladoelia variety. Over the years the grove has grown to around 3,000 trees, reflecting a steady, dedicated investment in quality olive production and in the landscape of his birthplace.
To support this vision, a modern, well-equipped bottling unit was built, where the olive oil is carefully stored, bottled, labelled and packaged. This is also a welcoming space where visitors can taste Stagona olive oil, discover its different expressions and tour the surrounding estate. Alongside extra virgin olive oil, Elaiones Stagona also produces artisanal products such as olive jams with distinctive flavours, olive paste and olive liqueur, showcasing the versatility of the olive fruit and adding value to local production.
Looking ahead, Diogenis plans to expand the facilities by adding an olive mill so that pressing can take place entirely on site, and to plant a further 2,000 trees. Even with this growth, the philosophy remains clear: the goal is not mass production, but to consistently achieve the highest possible quality. Each bottle of Stagona extra virgin olive oil is meant to bring a taste of the Pafos mountains and the rich olive tradition of Cyprus into people’s homes.
